RE: '08 Ford F-350: 3.55 vs. 3.73 rear end

I've got '08 3.73 with 7,000# TT (close estimate), driving through the mountains in Virginia, Ohio and Maryland it didn't have a problem at all. I could gain speed very very easily. Temps never even moved slightly, only ever shifted down to 4th gear.
I know this TT isn't close to your weight, but I thought I would throw my $.02, which probably isn't worth that.
Good luck and enjoy your new TV!!! Whatever you get.
Ohio does not have mountains.

RE: Just spent some time at the Dodge dealer

I just wish they'd bring the Neon back... We own 3 now and might buy another...
You can bet with 4 and 5 dollar/gallon gas, they wish they could bring it back too! The Caliber can't even come close to the Neon in regards to fuel efficiency. The wife is wanting to replace her 2004 Neon, but it's hard to give up 35-38 mpg highway.
I agree, hopefully they can recover and get back on the roll they were on in the 90s before the "merger", but with the current economy it will be a struggle. They need some fuel sippers, and they need them yesterday!
Nissan will provide Chrysler with fuel sippers based on the recent agreement between the two companies. Chrysler will supply pickup truck chassis's to Nissan so Nissan can develop their own unique interiors for the 1/2 ton pickups.

RE: Speaking of lawn mowers......

I do admit Lawn Boys are good mowers. Used to use one on occasion many moons ago. (Like 35)
However you got to mix gas & oil, you got to buy and transport gas, I don't do any of that, Just plug in and turn on. Way easier.
I do have to mix the gas with the oil, but I just do it once a season and add some Sta-bil to keep it fresh.
Does Lawn Boy still make 2 stroke mowers?

RE: GM's days of "Built in America" are numbered

My DW and I always wondered why they never advertised the Malibu Maxx heavily.
It has a great chassis, 200 Horsepower, 220 lbs of torque and great MPG up to 38 highway.. It almost looked like they were trying to lose business.
We've grown to love Plastic.
And small vise Grips are a great substitute for the broken rear seat reclining release lever.Plastic around a splined metal shaft.
At 67, I will be buried with this one.
28 mpg hwy tops not 38 mpg.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a21/jogiba/Album%20number%203/2007MalibuMaxx.jpg
Still not bad. My gutless 1984 Chevy Chevette was rated at 30mpg highway using the older, more lenient mileage ratings.

RE: GM's days of "Built in America" are numbered

I believe Miller was purchased in '02 by a South African brewer South African Breweries Plc and Coors merged with Molson of Canada a while ago. Then last fall SABMiller and Molson Coors got together as 50/50 partners. You can't tell the American brands without a program anymore. Coors is still brewed with rocky mountain spring water but the corporate parent is South African but based in London along with Montreal based Molson Coors. The combined stock should be listed listed on the NYSE shortly.
Is Sam Adams beer still 100% American?

RE: GM's days of "Built in America" are numbered

Jim & Joan haven't been to lower Michigan in awhile. Most marina's are about half empty and on Lake Erie you mostly see sail boats today. The big boat are tied to the docks and only go out once a month at most. you can not find a small high mileage compact on any of the car lots. Lots of big SUV that aren't selling. The Big Three missed the boat back in the seventies with the first oil crisis and are now paying for with sales loss and catch up to the foreign manufactures with the high mileage vehicles.
The boats your talking about are not average Joe's tow boats or toys that I'm thinking of. I know there is a down turn now but we had the same down turn in the 70's, nothing, so far shows me this one will be any different.
I worked for GM in management and the auto industry has always been feast or famine and so has our economy.
I work in the auto industry and agree with this. The "big boats" are always tied up at the marina, regardless of the price of gas. If you can afford a $1,000,000+ yacht, fuel costs are not an issue.

RE: Tundras no more. Toyota suspends production.

I'll buy a half ton again when you can buy a 25-30 mpg diesel one. That would be a great vehicle for estimates.
Light-duty diesel to arrive after 2009; two-mode hybrid powertrain to be offered in 2010 model year. Sorry not comming until 2010! :M

Be careful loading those Toyota Tacomas - the frames rust severely.

RE: Potential Bad News for Ethanol

All good ideas but you know I'm beginning to think we'll all be in our graves long before anything is really DONE about the problem. Govt moves like molassas in January esp when business is kicking and screaming about the cost of switching over. I'm afraid that the global warming - manmade or natural - will reach the tipping point and go over years before mankind decides to get serious about doing something about it. Our grandkids won't have much to thank us for then, will they?
What global warming are you referring to? It's 10 degrees outside.

RE: More Red Light Camera Abuse

Not following state highway/traffic engineering guidelines for setting speed limits. The city of Dayton, Ohio put a 35mph speed limit on a road that was supposed to have a 50mph limit. Of course, the local cops setup a speed trap there because they were just "doing their job". The city was sued and lost and the proper speed limit was posted.
il·le·gal ?lig?l
–adjective 1. forbidden by law or statute.
What law was broken...they simply did not follow the advice of a study. Seems they are free to make the speed limit anything they want.
A politician telling the red light camera company to decrease the time between red/yellow/green. Traffic light timing is supposed to be set by traffic engineering studies
Once again this is a study not a statute.
The law requires data from the traffic study to set the speed limit or traffic light timing.

Good reason to use one of those license plate covers.
Mythbusters did a segment on this, and NOTHING kept the camera from reading the plate # - paint, covers, etc.

I might belive misposted or underposted, but illegally? No way. And how was this illegally enacted?

RE: More Red Light Camera Abuse

They took them off line in Charlotte,N.C..It seems that the revenue wasn't being spent towards what it was supposed to go too.And yes they can up or lower the sec. on the cameras. For every $48 ticket the owner of the cameras were getting $38,and the city was getting $10.Thats a great money maker isn't it?No use in trying to appeal it.Just pay it.It doesn't go against your driving record or insurance. And yeah it sucks.

RE: More Red Light Camera Abuse

Gotta go tell the judge, which means two trips - one to plead not guilty and have a hearing date set up and then the second trip to actually state your case. Both trips will take a few hours and most people just pay the fine and go on about their business.
You plead not guilty when you send in the ticket - no special trip required. The court then assigns the hearing date.

Not if they are illegally enacted. Kind of like illegally underposted speed limits.
